EA Announces Star Wars Squadron

I was caught off guard yesterday as EA just announced a new Star Wars IP. It is called Star Wars: Squadron and it sees you as a fighter pilot in the Star Wars Universe. I have included the trailer from EA below so you can check it out.

Details are still a little murky but there are some things that have been explained. The game is being developed by Motive Studios, whos first game was Star Wars Battlefront II in collaboration with DICE. We do know the game takes place after Return of the Jedi and after the Battle of Endor. The game also alternates between two pilots in the New Republic's Vanguard Squadron and the Empire's Titan Squadron. For the story, that is all we know.

Gameplay-wise, it looks very similar to the dogfighting sections of the last Battlefront game. Which isn't a bad thing. The game played well minus the microtransactions. By the way, you will be happy to know that EA learned its lesson with that and there will be no microtransactions in this new IP. You can upgrade your pilot as you level up and earn more ships, weapons, and various other cosmetic parts. It is set to release on October 2, 2020, for current generation consoles minus the Switch at a price point of $40. The PC and PS4 versions will support VR and the game will include cross-platform play.

I am very interested in this game and will be buying it. I love Star Wars anyways. But I think EA is doing the right thing and after the microtransaction fiasco that was the release of Star Wars Battlefront II, seem to be heading in the right direction. It was very smart of them to give the last Star Wara game to Respawn. Hopefully, all this provides a newly restored faith in how EA is handling Star Wars. I am sure they found out lack of faith...disturbing.

Anyways, I hope you enjoyed the post and let me know if you plan on buying this game. Check out my last Star Wars post about the delay of the new book series here. Have a great day!
